In the previous two parts of this blog series, we explained the advantages of upgrading from Dynamics AX to Dynamics 365 F&O and the benefits of D365 Finance specifically. In turn, this last blog dives into the benefits and functionalities of Dynamics 365 SCM (Supply Chain Management).
Business intelligence
Just like Dynamics 365 Finance, D365 SCM makes use of Power BI dashboards that provide real-time insights as well as predictive analyses. These analyses are powered by artificial intelligence, and they allow you to optimize your operations management (e.g., planning, manufacturing, warehouse and transportation). For instance, the system can foresee potential problems with machinery and help you to ensure consistent product quality. In addition, you gain insights from the solution because it makes every step in your supply chain visible. It can even show you stock information from partners and predict evolving customer demands.
Optimization and automation
Dynamics 365 SCM is very flexible, allowing you to use different manufacturing methods per product family (e.g., make-to-stock, make-to-order, and engineer-to-order). Also, access and use by end users such as warehouse employees is optimized by providing them with customized mobile applications. As a result of this flexibility, productivity and efficiency will increase. In addition, system automation can empower you to improve factors such as material sourcing and product delivery. You will also receive guidance in case issues with stock management arise, allowing you to quickly identify and resolve problems by use of the workspaces.
Modules and functionalities
The solution offers various new modules and features that further support your supply chain management. You can use a selection of these functionalities based on your business’ needs. For example, there is a module for asset management which lets you plan maintenance procedures to prolong the lifespan of your machinery. Microsoft also added a feature for hazardous goods in D365. Another important difference compared to Dynamics AX is a new feature called Planning Optimization. It reduces the runtime of Master Planning from hours to minutes. In addition, Microsoft released the new module Landed Costs, which makes it easier to track shipments from overseas vendors and to allocate costs to the goods. For a more detailed overview of new functionalities in D365, see this link.
